What brings you joy?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 13, 2008:
So many things bring me joy...
Children's laughter
Watching an ant drag an insect much larger than itself from point A to pont B
A purring cat snuggled up to me
A smile from a stranger
Listening to a bird singing
The smell of lilacs
A beautiful garden
Listening to the ebb and flow of the ocean as the waves pound the shore
The smell of suntan lotion and sea water as they mix with warm sun and sugar fine sand
A hike in the woods... reaching the summit and enjoying the view
Going off the beaten path
Lunch with a friend
A good book
Teaching
Learning
Trying new things
Exploring the unknown
Natures beauty and complex design
Commuting on the train
Making new friends
Chocolate... the darker, the better
A rainbow after a storm
Edelweiss
The velvety feeling of a horse's muzzle
Watching my daughters grow up
A good opera
Getting lost in the artwork of Andrew Wyeth
My list could go on and on. I hope you've enjoyed a sampling of it!

Yes, sure, very impressive list albeit a little “short”, I would add that feeling you get when you look into an open soul.
There are many things that aren't on the list… things that I thought of just after I had posted the entry. I''m part of the Gratitude pod (group), I can always post more there!
The only one that doesn't resonate with me right now is this one:
Listening to a bird singing.
Here's why. I am working in a live-in care environment right now and the birds are such early risers, they often wake me up before my alarm goes off at 6:00am! Ugh.
For some unknown reason, I was already awake at 3:17 this morning… perhaps that would explain why I am SO tired right now… by around 5am, the birds were already here, there and everywhere. They were so beautiful sounding. I love listening to their different songs.
I know what you mean though… sometimes you wish it could just be dark and quiet… a few more minutes of sleep and solitude!
When I take my client's pooch, Sebastian, for a walk in the morning, the feeling is much different. I am more receptive.
AZ has a wide variety of birds; what are your favorites, Susan, in CT?
Heemes, I have several favorites. I have always loved the blue jay because it is brassy, loud and aggressive… kind of like me at times. I enjoy watching the flashy goldfinches dart to and from the thistle feeder. The red-winged blackbird has always brought me joy… I love the way it looks. I love it when the super fast hummingbirds visit my feeder (I saw my first hummingbird in AZ!). I hope to get some great pictures of them this summer. I enjoy listening to the barred owl and the screech owl as they call out into the night. The owl became particularly important to me this past year, but that would be a chapter book to write about.
Heemes, AZ has some really cool birds, including the elusive Roadrunner! What are your favorites?
The one I like the most is all over the gated community I work at. It is the Gambel's quail. It is elusive and elegant with the headress to die for. The other ones don't really register in my memory. Don't think I've seen any roadrunners, but I've heard the coyotes! Maybe that's why.
What a CUTE bird! Very fancy dress for every day livin'! I should have included links like you did so you could see my bird picks…
Blue Jay
Goldfinch
Red-winged Blackbird
Hummingbird
Barred owl
Screech owl
Jeeze… I gave quite the shopping list of birds, didn't I?!?
Hope you enjoy!
