I came across this amazing mushroom this afternoon.
I was driving along in my car, just minding my business (okay, okay, so maybe I wasn't TOTALLY minding my own business)... I turned a corner and saw something yellow in the grass. It was a huge mushroom. I kept on driving. Then I said to myself "Self... go back there and take a picture of that mushroom!"

I was hoping that no one was watching me. I mean, here I was photographing a huge mushroom that had sprouted up in the middle of someone's lawn. NO DICE!!! After I took the picture and I was walking back to my car, a woman spoke to me, and when she did, I almost fell down. She had caught me off guard!

"Amazing, isn't it? They're native to this part of the state." she said. I had never seen something so cool! I hopped into my car and drove off down the street. Then I thought about the mushroom's size. I decided to drive back and add something to the picture so that others could gain perspective on the mushroom's true size. I used a quarter and a dollar...

I'm happy that I went back to take the pictures... what a truly amazing piece of nature. I'm so glad that it was there for me to enjoy. I kind of feel like it was something that jumped out of the pages of Alice In Wonderland!

Help

i'm just glad you didn't try and eat it! LOL…i am in a playful mood this evening…but these were wonderful pictures…thnx for sharing them with us…joy*
we got more than a buck and a quarter worth of mushroom…thanks
Starlight and Maze,
LOL! Thanks for the laughs. Starlight… I did wonder why animals hadn't tried to eat it already… and I'm also kind of surprised that some kids didn't pick it and experiment with it. Maze, I'm glad you feel like you got your money's worth!
:-)
Hugs!

Oh Susan, I am so glad you took the time to shoot these pictures.
The mushroom is magical. It is so yellow and speckly and magnificent is you really look at it and appreciate its beauty. Maybe it is poisonous to humans. it is too beautiful to eat.
Thanks so much. It IS Alice in Wonderlandelicious.
Wow!!!! Can't imagine what kind of “super sludge” that thing would need to get so big. Anyone consider testing it for radio-activity? (just kidding!!!!) ;)
Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
~~^v^~~ Gem
I love seeing amazing mushrooms! So glad you took photos of this one! :)
Mimi,
Your response made me smile… it made me feel like a kid all over again…. sharing the most amazing thing with my best friend… she would have seen the mushroom the same way you did. Thank you for reminding me of that!
Gem,
One has got to wonder WHAT lies under that woman's front yard! Food for thought… pun intended…
Emma,
Thanks for visiting. Sometimes photography is just one of those spur of the moment things… I have never seen large mushrooms before.
Hugs!

ahhhhh, that is the little toadstool house of Big Ears, the gnome friend of Noddy (a set of story books by Enid Blyton that filled my wee child world with wonderment).
How beautiful is nature….Fab pics Susan #1…. awesome that you spied this magical mushroom and stopped to enjoy.
Jaguar Goddess,
I know Noddy! My imagination ran wild with me when I thought of all of the creatures that may use the mushroom… for shade, for protection from rain… I wonder what's inside? maybe it is a little house. LOL!

wow, a sister who knows Noddy, super…maybe you know Cuddlepot and Snugglepie in May Gibbs' stories…
Trippy!
Your pic took me back to chilldhood, and fairies, I imagined it with a little door and window and as a fairies home. Smiles.
I can only imagine a large caterpillar perches atop smoking his hookah while Alice peers pensively over the top of the mushroom to query the 'pillar as to her whereabouts! Lovely photo and musings!
Jaguar Goddess,
I don't know Cuddlepot and Snugglepie, but I'm sure I can find them in my local library! They sound sweet!
MorningStar,
LOL!
Zephyr,
Your response made me smile… I'm glad I could take you back to a place that sounds simply delightful.
Geo,
I was looking for that large caterpillar… but I didn't find him anywhere!
Hugs!
